Villa Sinfonia Foundation In Concert at St John’s Church Waterloo

Come and hear this talented young orchestra, all the way from California, USA. The Villa Sinfonia Foundation Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra will be performing at St John’s Church Waterloo on Tuesday 24th June at 20:00. The concert is free of charge to the public, all donations to go to the Godly Play Room at St John’s.

The 90 musicians, ranging in age from 12 – 25, will perform a varied programme of music, including Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue, Elgar’s Elegy, Grieg’s Holberg Suite and pieces by Bach, Brahms, Purcell and Nelhybel.

The Foundation Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra have performed in Salzburg, Munich, Heidelberg, Rome, Siena and Prague, as well as at Carnegie Hall in New York. They are accomplished musicians. This concert is the culmination of a tour beginning in Edinburgh at Greyfriars Kirk, including a performance at Selby Abbey and then on to St Cuthbert’s Church in Bristol.

The Villa Sinfonia Foundation was established by Roy and Lynn Oakley as a non-profit organisation serving the performance and educational needs of many students and amateurs in Northern California. It is dedicated to developing string musicians of all ages and abilities through the performance of chamber and chamber orchestra music. The Foundation’s yearly schedule provides performance opportunities at all levels, the top level being the Villa Chamber Orchestra.

Directors Roy and Lynn Oakley have an extensive musical background with graduate degrees from San Francisco State University. They have taught I public and private schools, guest conducted at music camps and taught at Suzuki institutes. They received a Certificate of Honour from the City of San Francisco in 2001 in recognition of 25 years of outstanding service to the community.

Formed in 1931 by the education visionary Ernest Read, Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra (ERSO) is one of London's leading community orchestras. Formerly best known for its children's concerts, it now performs a range of ambitious repertoire to an impressive standard, giving five concerts every season in venues across London.

The Orchestra champions developmental opportunities for emerging conductors and performers, and remains committed to giving concerts for children.
